Last Monday, the Space Lord's spaceship docked at Z7 in Pratteln. Supported by the amazing support of the Texans Scorpion Child, who looked like they came straight out of the 70s, it was Psychedelic Rock at its finest! Monster Magnet "Celebrating The A&M Years Live" was on the program and the guys around Dave Wyndorf were simply great! There were power riffs, a lot of sweat and at the end an ode to the word "motherfucker".
On Monday evening, Monster Magnet raged in the well-attended Konzertfabrik Z7 with all the power of their passion. In recent years, Dave Wyndorf and his band have proven again and again that they have a lot of fun celebrating their previous releases live again. Under the tour motto "Celebrating The A & M Years Live", Monster Magnet celebrate what are possibly the four most important recordings in their history. The band signed to A&M Records in the early 1993s and released their most famous and influential albums to date - starting with "Superjudge" in 2000. Two years later "Dopes to Infinity" was released with the single "Negasonic Teenage Warhead", which placed the band on music television for the first time. Another three years later, her most successful album to date followed with «Powertrip». In XNUMX her last album, «God Says No», was released on A & M Records.
In the opening act, however, only Scorpion Child showed how Psychedelic Rock used to work. Very groovy, vintage and full of atmosphere. How nice almost three years ago singer Aryn Jonathan Black had everything under control. The five gentlemen really went wild on stage and really gave their all. Visually and stylistically, the guys are reminiscent of «Led Zeppelin», with sprawling psychedelic jam passages with wafting echo devices and feedback effects. Titles like "Polygon Of Eyes" or "The Secret Spot" didn't fail to have an effect and made the audience cheer again and again. "Scorpion Child" are thoroughbred musicians who play bombastic rock with a lot of passion, joy and vigour. The initial reluctance in the audience quickly subsided and the band's stage presence was simply great.
After a half-hour break, the rock heroes from New Jersey finally stepped onto the floor. The bustling singer Dave Wyndorf has been on the floor with his combo for 27 years and Dave seemed fitter than ever, yes even him Bacon from a few years ago was almost completely gone and you didn't notice his advanced age. "Crop Circle" blasts through the speakers with thick bass pressure waves and Dave roars like a bear. The second song described the direction of the evening: "Powertrip", nothing else was here. "It's nice to be back in Pratteln," said Dave happily, and he started right away, hitting the strings of his guitar with all his might. At least now, with the big groove monster «Melt», it has happened to almost everyone in the audience. Songs like "Superjudge" and "Look to Your Orb for the Warning" set the Z7 on fire, and punk-leaning tracks like "Dinosaur Vacuum" and "Tractors" eventually burned it all down.
Although the band was founded in 1989, they are still enthusiastic and fully committed. Exactly this enthusiasm comes across 1:1 and you can tell that they wanted to make the place tremble. The audience is also fully involved from the first second, which by the way also includes some older semesters. The same applies to the band, which is getting a bit old, but is busier than many of its younger colleagues. Vocally Dave Wyndorf is really top notch and with a fan on stage in front of him his hair is blowing in the wind. You can hear the people singing along, some even let themselves be tempted to dance, albeit rather reluctantly. What is certain is that Monster Magnet is one of the few remaining "real" old-school rock bands, which is probably why fans from then to now have remained loyal to it. From classic rock to acid rock to more progressive numbers, everything was there on this evening. For the "Space Lord" bomb, Wyndorf shows all the gestures that rock history has taught him. Silence, whistles and convincing calls for more follow. Monster Magnet shared this opinion and so they returned to the stage with «I Want More», followed by the brutal «Face Down» and the finale with «Negasonic Teenage Warhead», a hearty announcement and a brilliant final light. It was an entertaining show even for those who didn't know the individual songs.
Monster Magnet and their colleagues from Scorpion Child brought the audience an entertaining concert evening full of rock'n'roll. After 27 years and ten studio albums as a songwriter and cool performer, Wynford doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. Like no other band, Monster Magnet stands for Kick Ass-Hardrock with a stoner flair and that certain garage feeling of the 60s and 70s. A great concert, great atmosphere and a horde of enthusiastic fans who were guaranteed a great start to the week with this Monday evening concert. Anyone who did not attend the Z7 in Pratteln on Monday has definitely missed something!
