And the devils keep dancing! Episode two also offers a fast-paced mix of joke, horror and rough splatter elements! After the events from the Ash vs. Evil Dead pilots, Ash wants to get to the bottom of the demonic invasion. But first he and his companions are put to a severe test. Does a returnee believed dead always have to be a demon? You used to be dead, right?
The pilot episode "El Jefe" provided a terrific start in the series "Ash vs. Evil Dead" and the new 2nd episode "Bait" continues the story about Ash and his companions. It goes without saying that things are going to get bloody again this time and Bruce Campbell – the cool pig – is in the best of moods. Also in the second episode not a dry eye stays and if it goes on like this, which we really hope, that's exactly what the fans of the "Evil Dead" series wanted.
Thematically, this episode is about trust and teamwork. After a brief look back at the past events, one is immediately drawn into current events. Ash stands together with Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) in front of a dead demon that haunted the group at the end of the pilot episode and was cut a head by Ash. Ash takes up his original plan and wants to go to an expert with the Necronomicon, hoping for a way to drive the roaming demons out of the world of the living. Kelly, however, has a different priority, which was already indicated in the start of the series. While she was on the phone with her father, Kelly's mother, who was believed to be dead, suddenly showed up at his place and then the connection was cut. Now Kelly is full of concern for her old man and desperately wants to pay him a visit.
Ash is less enthusiastic about the idea and would rather decipher the secrets of the Necronomicon as soon as possible in order to get to the root of the problem. After Kelly steals Pablo's wheelchair in order to drive to her parents on her own, the Necronomicon can suddenly no longer be found. Ash suspects the worst and sets off with Pablo to see Kelly. Ash and Pablo understandably assume that Kelly's resurrected mother Suzy (Mimi Rogers) has returned as a snarling creature from hell, but to their surprise, they are welcomed at Kelly's home by a healthy-looking and cheerful lady. She tells them a reasonably believable story for their disappearance and assures them that she is not a demon.
The question of whether Suzy is really a devious demon, or whether her tragic story is true, forms the core of the second episode. Suzy is so friendly and courteous that Kelly and her father (Phil Peleton) immediately believe that the wife and mother are back. Pablo is torn over the vote of confidence and Ash does not want to believe in Suzy's story for a second, because he already knows the deceitful maneuvers of the demons from his own past.
